Peat + Cask Exploration

A journey through oak influence on peated Whiskies

Peat + Cask Exploration is not about regions or distillery identity. It is about interaction; how smoky spirit behaves when confronted with radically different oak environments.
Wine casks, rum barrels, experimental oaks, fortified wines, classic sherry, modern barriques…
Each one alters peat in a different direction: softening it, sharpening it, sweetening it, or reframing it entirely.

These tastings were among my first deliberate attempt to map that landscape.
Not to judge, but to observe.
Not to rank, but to compare.
Not to chase favourites, but to trace cause and effect.

Across these flights, a deeper truth emerged:

Peat is not a flavour, it is a framework. The cask is the architect. And the whisky is the negotiation between them.

This series captures the beginning of that realisation; the point where my whisky journey shifted from intuition to inquiry, from tasting to analysis, from enjoyment to understanding.

A foundation I still build on today.
